Opened in 1992, the Rose Garden Community Centre and Theatre is a modern, purpose-built multi function building set in attractive gardens in the heart of Belmont, North Shore City (five minutes from the Harbour Bridge towards Devonport).
It has a tiered intimate theatre with a newly installed comfortable fixed seating for 120, plus spacious foyer, modern kitchen and two community lounges, leading onto enclosed decks and gardens.
The Centre hosts a variety of activities from folk dancing, yoga and bridge to acting classes and theatrical productions. It has a resident drama group, Company Theatre, and a community pre-school catering for 21 children.
The Rose Centre Theatre, with its flat rimu 7 x 11 metre stage, is used for drama, music and dance, as well as for seminars, meetings and formal gatherings. There are front and wing curtains, plus baic stage wash lighting, sound equipment and an upright Yamaha piano.
"The Rose Theatre" as many regulars call it, has carved a firm place as a true community theatre filling a need for affordable space with an intimate ambience, excellent acoustics and versatility as a performance space for small to medium sized shows; amatuer or professional.
Clientele ranges from preofessionals such as top singing teacher Janice Webb's regular "SING" concerts. Tall Poppy Theatre, international guitarists, chamber music ensembles and Spanish/Mid-Eastern Dance to Youth Theatresports, children's theatre, a German language play, disabled dance classes and choir concerts, to name a few.
The Rose Centre also arranges and runs special low cost luncheon and afternoon entertainment and variety concerts which cater for folk who prefer daytime events, as well as school holiday children's shows like "A Touch of Magic" in conjunction with magician Graham Bennett.
